Après un stage postdoctoral à la University of Colorado, à la University of Denver et à la Vanderbilt University, M. Boivin a obtenu une bourse de recherche du CRSH et a occupé tour à tour, à l’École de psychologie, des postes de chercheur-boursier (1987), de professeur subventionnel (1989) et de professeur régulier (1990). Il a obtenu une bourse de carrière (chercheur chevronné) des Instituts de recherche en santé du Canada (IRSC; 2000-2005) et, par la suite (2004-2011), une Chaire de recherche du Canada. Il a été président de la Société québécoise pour la recherche en psychologie (SQRP; 1996-1999) et directeur adjoint de l’École de psychologie (2002-2005). Il est directeur pour l’Université Laval du Groupe de recherche sur l’inadaptation psychosociale chez l’enfant et l’adolescent (GRIP), un centre de recherche interuniversitaire qui vise la compréhension interdisciplinaire du développement des difficultés d’adaptation chez les enfants et l’identification des moyens les plus efficaces pour les prévenir. Il dirige un programme de recherche sur les composantes biologiques, psychologiques et sociales du développement du jeune enfant, programme qui prend appui sur des études longitudinales d’envergure dont l’Étude des jumeaux nouveau-nés du Québec (ÉJNQ) et l’Étude longitudinale du développement des enfants du Québec (ÉLDEQ). Enfin, il dirige le Réseau stratégique de connaissances sur le développement des jeunes enfants (RSC-DJE) qui vise la mobilisation des connaissances sur cette question et qui appuie la construction de l’Encyclopédie sur le développement du jeune enfant dont il est l’un des éditeurs. Monsieur Boivin est membre la Société royale du Canada.
