Biographie

Charles Morin est professeur à l’École de psychologie depuis 1994 et chercheur au Centre de recherche CERVO de l’Institut universitaire en santé mentale de Québec. Après l’obtention de son doctorat de Nova Southeastern University (1986), il a complété un internat à University of Mississippi Medical Center (1985-86) et un stage postdoctoral (1986-87) à Virginia Commonwealth University, où il a ensuite dirigé le Centre d’étude des troubles du sommeil et été professeur au Département de psychiatrie de 1987 à 1994. Son programme de recherche porte sur les troubles du sommeil et plus particulièrement sur l’épidémiologie et les approches thérapeutiques de l’insomnie. Ses travaux sont subventionnés par les Instituts de recherche en santé du Canada, le Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture et le National Institute of Mental Health des États-Unis. Il est titulaire de la Chaire de recherche du Canada en médecine comportementale du sommeil. En 2018, il a été nommé Président de la Commission de la recherche de l’Université Laval. Il est rédacteur en chef adjoint des revues Sleep et Behavioral Sleep Medicine et fait partie du comité de rédaction de plusieurs autres revues scientifiques. Monsieur Morin est président de la World Sleep Society et il a été président de la Société canadienne du sommeil et de la Section clinique de la Société canadienne de psychologie. Il a fait partie d’un groupe de travail de l’American Psychiatric Association ayant comme mandat de réviser les critères diagnostiques des troubles du sommeil pour le DSM-5. Monsieur Morin a reçu plusieurs prix pour sa contribution exceptionnelle à la psychologie dont le Prix Noël-Mailloux de l’Ordre des psychologues du Québec, le Prix Adrien Pinard de la Société québécoise pour la recherche en psychologie, le Prix Donald O. Hebb de la Société canadienne de psychologie, le Prix Marcel-Vincent de l’Association francophone pour le savoir, le Distinguished Scientist Award de la Sleep Research Society (2016) et le Distinguished Lecturer Award in Sleep Sciences de l’Institut de la recherche en santé du Canada et de la Société canadienne du Sommeil (2019).
