Professeure pendant trois ans à l’Université du Québec (Télé-université), madame Fortin entre au service de l’École de psychologie en 1989. Ses travaux de recherche, subventionnés par le CRSNG, portent principalement sur l’étude du rôle des facteurs cognitifs, en particulier la mémoire et l’attention, dans l’estimation temporelle. Elle s’intéresse aussi au partage d’attention en double tâche, ainsi qu’à l’étude des fonctions cognitives lors du vieillissement ou en présence de certaines pathologies. Elle est directrice du Groupe de recherche en psychologie cognitive (GRPC). En 1998 et en 2002, elle a coprésidé un colloque international, tenu à Québec, sur la mémoire à court terme. Responsable d’une partie de la formation supérieure en méthodes quantitatives, elle a rédigé plusieurs documents didactiques sur l’analyse de données informatisées et sur l’utilisation des logiciels d’analyse statistique.
