Madame Ensink a occupé, pendant plusieurs années, un poste de psychologue clinicienne et de chercheuse au Département de psychiatrie de University of Cape Town en Afrique du Sud, où elle a développé une expertise en psychologie clinique de l’enfant et de l’adolescent, en intervention auprès des parents ainsi qu’en méthodes de recherche épidémiologique et d’études d’efficacité des traitements. Elle a complété ensuite un doctorat portant sur le développement de la mentalisation à University College London, sous la direction de Peter Fonagy et de Mary Target en même temps qu’elle maintenait une pratique clinique et la coordination des activités de recherche au Anna Freud Centre de Londres. En 2002, elle est recrutée à titre de professeure suppléante à l’École de psychologie de l’Université Laval et, en 2003, elle devient professeure-chercheuse régulière dans la même université. C’est en 2015 qu’elle obtient le statut de professeure titulaire. Ses intérêts de recherche portent principalement sur la mentalisation, les traumas et leurs rôles dans l’évolution des difficultés psychologiques chez l’enfant et l’adolescent. Elle est reconnue comme experte internationale et formatrice senior au niveau de la mentalisation chez l’enfant, l’adolescent, l’adulte et dans la relation parent-enfant ainsi qu’au niveau des applications cliniques de cette notion. Elle a développé plusieurs outils qui visent l’évaluation de la mentalisation, entre autres, la Child and Adolescent Reflective Functioning Scale. Elle a aussi développé, avec ses collègues du Anna Freud Centre (London), de Yale (USA), De Jutters (Holland) et du Erica Foundation (Sweden) un traitement basé sur la mentalisation pour les enfants, et ils ont publié le livre Mentalization Based Treatment for Children: A Time Limited Approach. Consultez le site Web du livre. Mme Ensink pratique la psychologie clinique dans son champ d’expertise et qu’elle est aussi chercheuse régulière du Centre de recherche interdisciplinaire sure les problèmes conjugaux et les agressions sexuelles (CRIPCAS). Enfin, elle s’est vue décerner le prix Richard P. Kluft, pour le meilleur article publié dans le « Journal of Trauma & Dissociation » en 2017.
